My iPhone Apps

It’s about time I talk about my third hand, my iPhone. This entry has been sitting on my drafts for close to about a year now so I finally decided to update it and share my thumb’s best friends. In no particular order, these are the apps I mostly use on a daily basis:

The apps that I use are pretty much self-explanatory: Facebook, TweetBot (best twitter client, hands down), Instagram, Snapchat, Swarm. I have Path but I only go on it sometimes to keep track of my friends back in Jakarta because it’s pretty much the no. 1 social networking app there now. I have Goodreads downloaded when I’m currently reading a book so I can track my progress easily.

Friday’s 10 Happy Things, v2

1. Fun day Monday! Last Monday was a holiday for us so a few friends and I took an impromptu drive to the South of Cebu where we literally chased (5 levels!) waterfalls, and ended the day with a dip in the beach waiting for the sun to set on the horizon right before our eyes. Despite the long drive, it was such a great day for all of us.

2. Being a year older. I had a very extended birthday weekend that stretched from Last Thursday to Monday. I thought nothing could ever top last years’ birthday festivities that stretched up to 10 days, but this year comes close and up to par. I’m always thankful.

3. Signed books! Working in a book publishing company comes with perks, and I received not 1, but 3 signed books from well known authors. I was greeted with a UPS box when I got back to the office with signed hardback books by Jojo Moyes, Gayle Forman, and Lisa Jackson.

4. Accidental make-up ban. Ever since I got back from Singapore I have not bought a single cosmetic. I ran out of my favorite tinted moisturizer and my best friend surprised me by buying one for my birthday!

5. Pay day Friday. Need I say more?

6. A very productive yet tiring work week. I complain about brain drain a lot from working 2 jobs.. but at the end of the day/week I am glad to be doing things that I actually like.

7. Excitement for my boyfriend’s arrival. Auuugghhhh.

8. My mom’s non-serious lab results. She’s been complaining about pain in her hips for a few weeks now and she finally had it checked yesterday. There goes my freaking out again. Having history of breast cancer, these tests are always so nerve wracking for the both of us. Results came out with no sign of cancer (THANK GOD) but she has to take maintenance meds for her kidney stones.

9. Sims Freeplay. After a long day of work, this gives me back the mental balance I need.

10. Yesterday’s yoga class. It gets so grueling at times especially in the middle of practice, but I am ALWAYS so glad I do it at the end.

Ditz Revolution

New Year, Clean System

One of my goals (I don’t really say resolutions, see previous post) this year is to completely zero out my MacBook Pro and start from scratch. Everything that’s in there has been around for almost 8 years or so, since I bought my very first MacBook then bought my second one and did a Migration Assistant from the old one.

It’s been a long time coming, really. I hardly use the apps I used to hoard, I hardly listen to songs from my iTunes collection (hello, Spotify!) and the files that are inside are remnants of my sleepless nights in college writing countless essays and reports and marketing research and the likes. Needless to say, stuff that I’ve grown out of. I have a separate hard drive for my movies, tv shows, documents and photos, so I dumped everything in its rightful drive and proceeded to do a clean install. It was a very productive Saturday in, and it felt good.

Now that it’s back, I’ve listed out some of the things I’m going to do to preserve the life of this little buddy of mine.

1. Will not re-download iPhoto anymore. I have a hate-hate relationship with this app. For me it doesn’t serve its purpose because I really like sorting my photos manually and I feel like no matter how many times I select the option to NOT duplicate my photos, it still does.

2. Will re-upload files that are from 2012 and up only (not including music). I have some stuff that dates back to 2005 and I feel like it should stay in storage, where it belongs.

3. I’m still debating on whether I will be re-uploading my awesome and metadata-clean music collection or keep iTunes as clean as new. I think I’m fine with Spotify for now so I don’t think I will. Maybe with the exception of a couple of Taylor Swift and K-pop favorites.

4. There are some apps that I use daily and love and actually purchased, but are now discontinued (CoverSutra and Reeder to name a few). They were still inside my Applications folder so there’s no point in re-downloading them anymore. Time to part with the ones that are gone.

5. Thanks to Microsoft Office online and Office for iOS, I think I will wait until the 2015 version of MS Office. This may make me use Numbers, Pages and Keynote more!

Point is, it’s time to simplify, simplify, simplify! It’s gotta start somewhere and knowing how much of a procrastinator I am I decided to do it STAT. I hope this means better life for my MBP. Next step, social media purging? I did a few of it last year so this year I’m going to make sure I just keep the ones that I actually use. Here’s to a simple 2015!

Things I Love Thursday, #5

Can you believe it’s been 3 years since my last TILT? 2011! Well then, let’s proceed!

1. LORAC Pro 2 Palette, about $42

I got mine last weekend and I have been using it every single day since. My first major palette was the LORAC Stylist (Naked, what?) so it made perfect sense to me that I would purchase the LORAC Pro 2. It seems like US-based beauty bloggers prefer the original LORAC Pro to this one, but I feel like I can do more looks with this 2nd one and it also looks friendlier to my skin tone. I’m excited for my journey with this palette!

2. NARS Audacious in Vivien, about $32

As much as I want to include so many other beauty-related things (ahem, Real Techniques Nic’s Picks set, ahem).. I promised I wouldn’t make this list makeup-centric so this will be the last beauty item! I bought this sometime last month and if only I had lesser things to pay for I would definitely get me more of these. Imagine, there are about 40 colors in this line and at almost Php1800 per lipstick, it’s not exactly impulse buy friendly. But I love it so much and it could be the best lipstick I own. I seriously thought I was happy with my MACs. The forumla is amazing, the application is great and the color is so damn pretty. I am also happy I chose Viviene among all the others colors. It’s great for every day wear but it’s also wearable for special occasions.

3. GrabTaxi Promos in Cebu

GrabTaxi has been around in Cebu since early this year but it’s only now that we’re being spoiled by promos. Last month was the -P100 fare and now until the 21st of December they’re currently offering -P50 fare which still isn’t bad. It’s so useful and I save a lot of money. It’s also so much safer to go home because my work schedule ends at exactly midnight!

4. Sims FreePlay

I have been playing this game nonstop on my iPad Mini for about 3 weeks now. It looks so good on the retina versions, compared to when I played it on my old iPhone a couple of years ago that I ended up uninstalling it. I’ve even resorted to spending money on LPs and Simoleons. Help! There are no cheats for this damn thing and there are times I just get too impatient that I end up reducing App Store credits.

5. Roommate Season 2

Roommate is a Korean variety show where they house different celebrities from different industries and age groups, put them in one big amazing house and let them do challenges. It’s sort of like a wholesome family friendly version of Celebrity Big Brother minus the Big Brother aspect and being quarantined in a house 24/7. The celebrities still go to work or whatever activities they need to do but they must go home to this house. Cameras also get to follow them when they go to the supermarket or buy things for the house. It’s so much fun! I’ve only gotten into it with Season 2 and I have been loving the new cast and the activities they do. I might be out of touch with Korean entertainment lately, but Roommate is awesome.

Mobile Phone History

Saw a post in one of the blogs I subscribe to where he listed all the phones he’s ever owned so I felt like doing mine. If I am not mistaken these are the phones that I previously owned. I forgot which years though, but I do remember which times in my life I owned them.

  • Nokia 6110 (6th grade)
  • Nokia 3210 (7th grade)
  • Nokia 8250 (8th grade)
  • Sony Ericsson T610 (9th-10th grade)
  • Nokia 6020 (college in Cebu)
  • Motorola Razr V3 (uni in Jakarta)
  • BlackBerry Curve 8310 (2008-2009)
  • BlackBerry Curve 8900 (late 2009-early 2011)
  • BlackBerry Bold 9780 (2011-2012)
  • Samsung GT-E1195
  • Samsung GT-E1080F
  • iPhone 4S (2012-present)
  • Alcatel OT-255D

I feel liked I missed a few. I kinda have this thing for buying cheap phones that end up just lying around the house.. those are the ones indicated in Italics. Heh.
