I don’t even know where to start. What I know is, I finally got the 2015 review posts out of the way! I promised myself last year that I wouldn’t resume blogging unless I filled that out. I know everything in this blog since the year started has been long overdue considering today’s date but I would like to at least redeem myself for my 2 month absence. Here’s a little recap of how my 2016 has been so far..
For the whole of January I was only “home” for less than a week. As soon as I got back from New York, I had a few days to unpack and breathe for a bit before heading off to another Singapore work trip. That was a really packed week where I did lots of alignment with my bosses, meeting clients, and working with various teams on achieving projects, not to mention team outings and just generally catching up with colleagues I work with every day but don’t see. Ahhh, the wonders of being a digital nomad.
Aside from that, my trip to the States was definitely something to be remembered. I experienced snow for the first time. I had already been exposed to almost negative temperatures during a previous trip to Seoul a few years back, but the cold when January arrived was like no other. Thank goodness the Christmas cold wasn’t that bad because that’s when we did all our trips. New York City streets, Rockefeller, Times Square and all the things New York had to offer. Come January, when I went back to Manhattan to watch a broadway show (Matilda, yayyy) the temperatures started to drop like crazy and the winds were a killer. Little did we know that the blizzard was coming.
New York City during the holidays is a crazy, crazy place. It must be experienced in a lifetime, if you’re not a New Yorker. The tourist crowds are abundant, the Christmas spirit is amazing, the weather cold, the streets filled with all kinds of people from different walks of life, people speaking in every language possible there is. I admit it felt a little unreal, yet completely normal, being in a city where most of the movies or TV I love (hello, romcoms) are set and seeing everything as if I was watching myself from afar. I spent January 1, 2016 on top of One World Observatory just taking in all the beauty NYC has to offer. From 100+ floors above, it is definitely a sight to behold.
Washington, D.C. was probably one of the most favorite places that I visited. I left my heart there, to be honest. The buildings aren’t tall, museums are free, everything is accessible within the D.C. area, it’s so picturesque, and walking around the city would be so great. I met up with an old friend from school and had a few beers over at an Irish Pub and we didn’t get carded! For someone who kept getting the, “You’re look young to be 27!” statement, that was an accomplishment.
Once I got back from all the trips and settled back in my bed, I was glad to be home, but a certain part of me was also in the, “Now what?” stage. Then I keep remembering there’s always something to look forward to. Here’s to the next trips 2016 will bring!
