The Sunday Currently, v24

Hello 2017 and a happy new year everyone! That greeting is still valid, right? After all we’re only 8 days into the year but it already feels like 3 months. Crazy. I’ve been a little slow on blogging, mostly because I’ve been prioritizing different things and most especially getting my daily life on track after travelling for 4 weeks. December was weirdly great and I’m always grateful to end the year on a good note.

Crazy old. I turn 29 this year and it’s an age I never imagined turning. I’m not a fan of these feelings because I feel and look forever 19 or something. I was at a wedding yesterday where I had to make a speech and the host was genuinely shocked when I said I was only 28. And I had a full face of makeup to boot! I’m also still really lazy to wear glasses and I am feeling my eyesight just deteriorating, and been getting eye strain-related headaches lately.

Then Unpredictable Consequences of Love by Jill Mansell. I started this book since mid December to keep myself entertained before and during travel lulls, most especially if I couldn’t sleep in the cruise. I had no trouble sleeping in the cruise and did not have many travel lulls so naturally the book is still unfinished. I’m looking forward to at least finishing it this month!

About blogging backlog and updating this blog with things that happened in chronological order for the sake of my OC-ness. I didn’t want to start the year without a “2016 in retrospect” post and an update of my travels but I realized I need to start doing whatever I want and just go with it. So here it is!

A new dumb phone. I currently have two smartphones right now, one for work and one personal, but since I’m getting a new job(!!!!!) I don’t think I need an extra smartphone anymore. I’m not sure where I’m going with this but yeah. I want a new cheap-ass phone.

I just finished the third season of Younger. As I grow older my time and mental capacity with TV shows and binge-watching them has greatly shifted. I used to have all the time in the world to just watch everything but now I limit to the shows that truly make me happy. Anything that stresses me out (no matter how great—don’t get me started on Black Mirror) is immediately a no in my book. Not saying I completely dismiss them, it entirely depends on my current state of mind, of course. I hope they never stop making light-hearted smart shows like Younger for my viewing consumption.

My new Glossier Generation G in Crush. This is really bad, because now I want to get all the colors. The good news is (just a little consolation here), even after countless of Sephora trips last month I only bought very little. Yay me and reducing makeup obsession!

For a smooth sailing month. As I leave my current job to start a new challenge in my professional journey, I am excited yet super nervous as this is uncharted territory. The fact that this position was given to me makes me all the most hopeful that I can perform up to what is expected of me.

Ed Sheeran released two really good songs in the past few days, one of them which I absolutely love. Shape of You is such a great song and will no doubt be one of his million dollar hits.

For this year to be a kind one. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Sunday Currently, v23

I’ve been having really sudden bouts of bad headache the whole weekend. It’s weird because when I’m doing something like reading or watching something it goes away but when I’m idle or just looking around that’s when I really feel it. I have a feeling it has something to do with my glasses usage because I’ve had to take it off and put it on again a few times this weekend.

Miracle on 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan. I’ve been having a good streak with cheesy, romantic books this month and fortunately this is a trilogy starring 3 friends and their 3 different love lives. So far, so good!

Things I Love Thursday, #8: Vlogger Edition

I was about to tweet about the vlogs I watch, but it turned out to be more than 200 characters so an entry about it turned out to be the better option.

I wasn’t really a fan of vlogs. My previous job involved working in an office that limited creative process and that was partly to blame because we had a lot of internet restrictions. I didn’t have interest in gaining interest about the lives of others through videos so I didn’t get into it–until recently. It was only this year that I started watching and following lives of random people on the internet and I’m not even sure how it really came about. Here’s a rundown of my favorite vlogs and how I came to love them.

This is totally different from my list of beauty YouTubers (oh I watch a lot of those) so it’s not to say that I don’t spend a lot of time on YouTube still.

Sam Sheffer

I’ve been following Sam since he did social media at The Verge (particularly after this entry) and had no ounce of vlogging in his system. Then he started traveling for conventions and filmed his experiences and turned them into a weekly recap vlog. His followers, including myself, started to really get into the videos so he started doing more. Have not missed a single vlog and I think it’s been about 100+ now.

What I like about him is that he is so engaging and so informed (tech culture in general considering his line of work–now Mashable) in a way that he imparts that information and spreads it so that no one gets left behind. I also love his Boosted board rides and how he lives such an organic New Yorker life, if you know what I mean. Very millenial Casey Neistat version.

What I like: boosted board shots and the way he talks.

Erik Conover (with Jessica Clements)

Erik seems to be a very genuine and appreciative person, and you just can’t help but feel happy for their lives. A lot of positivity and good vibes radiate from his vlogs and we take an almost very personal peek into what their lives and travels are like. It’s crazy how you can feel so connected to a person by just watching 8-10 minutes of their life on camera.

What I like: his use of 1930s – 1950s (?) New York or French style of music for his B-roll or timelapse and normal day to day life in NYC.

Jon Olsson (with Marcus Valeur)

Jon Olsson is a pro ski athlete and vlogs daily with the help of Marcus, aka his cameraman and video blog producer. As they say, two heads are better than one and it is very apparent with the content that’s being put out. Jon’s living the life and gets to take Marcus with him too. It’s quite a new concept of vlogging, having a cameraman, as opposed to just using the viewfinder to help you out. Even the color grading is on point. Watch and you will see what I mean when I say I love this duo SO SO much.

What I like: Marcus (!!!!), his girlfriend Janni, and Jon’s obsession with anything and everything.

The Sunday Currently, v21

It’s almost the start of August! We’re officially in the 2nd part of the year so I wanted to make sure to put out one of these before the madness of the upcoming month.

My WP drafts page. I haven’t been blogging much this month because I’ve been slacking off on finishing a couple of drafts. I’m in that phase again where I write so many things but don’t have a conclusion to any of them. It’s annoying because there’s a chance I won’t ever go back to them.

My July Spotify playlist. Time to open up another one for August!

About events this upcoming week. Koko (our new puppy!!!!–haven’t blogged about this) is getting her shots this Tuesday; then going to a club opening on Wednesday and some stuff planned on Thursday and Friday that’s still kind of tentative. Bring it on I guess?

The Lemon Buttercream Hand Foam I used to wash my hands and arms with after playing with Koko before retreating to my room.

To have luck on getting that extra income. Ya girl needs to get them paper.

1. Koko!!!!!! We got her last Tuesday from a mutual friend. We were supposed to just check her out and think about it but the moment we saw her we absolutely fell in love and decided to just bring her home with us. I think if I decided to wait any longer I wouldn’t have been able to sleep. She’s been such a little ray of sunshine during my days and my heart is so full.

2. My new labeller (Casio Label Printer KL-60). I’ve been labelling all my things and it’s put me in such a great mood. It’s the best!

3. Today. I wasn’t supposed to go out because I wanted a Sunday at home, but my friends convinced me to and we had a good afternoon of coffee and laughter and had super cheap dinner. #SundayFunday

To really curb my shopping urges. I decided to take out the “WANTING” part of this series so that it doesn’t remind me of the things I want and instead focus on the things I need.

Pretty okay and excited for the coming week, but I have to admit my anxiety is always lingering and coming up at the most random of times. I don’t like it, but I’m just going through each day and trying to beat it. Otherwise, how will I end up if I let it win?

The original Sunday Currently appeared here.

Random Questions Vol. 1

I slept all day today (Wednesday, technically) because yay for holidays and I badly needed it. I was in Boracay with some friends for an extended weekend and somehow I haven’t recovered from it. It’s midnight now and tonight’s pre-bedtime reads included Racked. Came across this article where they asked Rashida Jones questions and I decided to do my own, following the same-ish format.

Favorite store in Cebu:
A bit challenging because the stores I like in Cebu are all chains–I’ve yet to find something I like that’s completely local. I’ll say Rustans because I’m basic like that.

What’s on heavy rotation in your closet:
These black dresses that I own, I have about 4 or 5 that I can wear just about anywhere or to any occasion. Mango and Pull & Bear makes really versatile ones.

Favorite drugstore beauty buy:
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and Maybelline Define-A-Brow pencil. Both not available in the Philippines, sadly.

Favorite investment beauty product:
My NARS Audacious Lipstick and LORAC Pro 2 palette. I would say my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder but I got that as a gift (that repurchase will soon be, though).

Top two comfort foods:
Indomie Goreng and Pork Sinigang.

Your karaoke vibe:
2000s hip-hop and Top 40.

Hulu or Netflix:
Netflix, because no Hulu here. Still, Netflix has better selection anyway.

What you’re currently binge-watching:
The last show I binge-watched was Kimmy Schmidt. I think I’m about to jump into a K-drama soon. Help.

Last book you read:
Me Before You by JoJo Moyes, just so I could watch the movie. Not a big fan of both (prefer Moyes’ other books).

Favorite Cebu restaurant right now:
Planet Grapes in Ayala. Burger Joint in The Gallery (mostly coz I’m craving a burger at this very moment).

Best item on the menu:
Planet Grapes – everything on the menu is great, that’s precisely why it’s my choice of restaurant. Cebu has a lot of good food, but it’s only Planet Grapes where I can say I like probably everything on the menu.
