The Sunday Currently, v9

FEELING I’m okay for the most part, but generally anxious because of decisions I have to make that involves a lot of things at stake. Despite having a relaxing Sunday at home because of the rain (curse you), I did not sleep well at all. READING God-Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo! Ham recommended me this book a few days ago and I’m almost halfway through it. It’s about a 27-year-old girl who falls in love with a quirky man and the book tells the story of their relationship. I relate to the girl in more ways than her age. I have a feeling this isn’t going to end well, but I’m ready for that. WRITING This blog post and a few comments on blogs on my list to read. Friday’s 10 Happy Things, v2

1. Fun day Monday! Last Monday was a holiday for us so a few friends and I took an impromptu drive to the South of Cebu where we literally chased (5 levels!) waterfalls, and ended the day with a dip in the beach waiting for the sun to set on the horizon right before our eyes. Despite the long drive, it was such a great day for all of us. 2. Being a year older. I had a very extended birthday weekend that stretched from Last Thursday to Monday. I thought nothing could ever top last years’ birthday festivities that stretched up to 10 days, but this year comes close and up to par. I’m always thankful. 3. Signed books! Working in a book publishing company comes with perks, and I received not 1, but 3 signed books from well known authors. I was greeted with a UPS box when I got back to the office with signed hardback books by Jojo Moyes, Gayle Forman, and Lisa Jackson. 4. Accidental make-up ban. Ever since I …

Day 18 – Your favorite: Childhood books

The only childhood books I ever remember really loving were the Sweet Valley Kids series. I’m pretty sure I was exposed to a lot of books as a child but Sweet Valley really stuck with me, up until Sweet Valley Twins, Sweet Valley High, Sweet Valley University, The Unicorn Club, SVJH (Sweet Valley Jr. High), Sweet Valley Senior Year, and even Sweet Valley Confidential, in which I posted about here and here. I remember getting this book during my 6th or 7th birthday. I was so happy. The Sweet Valley series were really a big part of my childhood. Other books that I remember really loving were different kinds of Enid Blyton books and a bit of The Babysitter’s Club as well. In my early “tweens” I also got into a lot of the Mary-Kate and Ashley franchise which includes their books like Two of a Kind, The Adventures of, and So Little Time collections and TV shows and DVDs. Day 8 – Tell me: Currently reading anything?

In terms of a book, I’m not reading anything right now. I’m waiting for Haruki Murakami’s new book that comes out this month, Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, so I’m reading articles/early reviews about it on Slate, NY Times, Newsweek and The Guardian. I think I’m ready for some bind boggling outlook on life and everything that surrounds it, not to mention quirky characters that Murakami seems to be fond of creating in his stories. I’m also reading, wait, catching up on Hollywood news because it seems like I’ve been so off the wagon this year. I didn’t even know Nikki Reed is now with Ian Somerhalder, I seriously thought she was still with her American Idol husband and Ariana Grande broke up with that The Wanted guy. I thought I knew these things. Shows how much my priorities have changed and shifted. I used to be all over this shit. Quiz me before, and I’d know the menial things about these peoples’ (celebrities’ as a whole) lives. It was so irrelevant …

Fifty Shades of Me No Likey

I think it’s about time I address this book and write about it. I haven’t really encountered a “bad book” until this one and I consider myself quite the pop culture bandwagonner and read most of the mainstream books so I decided to give the Fifty Shades series a chance, mostly because of the movie buzz that surrounded it. I did the same with Twilight a few years ago and ended up quite enjoying the series. It didn’t turn me into a Twihard, but I didn’t close myself off to the succeeding books and eventually the movie franchise (which I’m quite indifferent about actually, so to speak). Now about Fifty Shades, well it hurt my brain. It was such a struggle to read! I read on even though I knew it already was an awful book to start with from the first few chapters because I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. It was popular for a reason right?
