What’s Been Up III

160519 WBU

And just like that, it’s already May and my birthday month. I’m in Singapore right now working and spending my pre-birthday week, and by Friday I fly off to Jakarta until the end of the month. Just like 2015, this year is proving to be a travel-friendly year and I am always grateful I get to have moments where I can escape for a while and always renew my perspective on things.

The last 2 months have thankfully been eventful for me and many times I wanted to put it into words and write about it. Obviously that did not happen and sometimes I beat myself up for it but then again, what can I really do? I always want to be better at blogging regularly but I realize that pressuring myself to write doesn’t always come out great. Hey hey hey, here I am.

Elections

I voted for the first time ever! It felt quite empowering to be honest, lining up with fellow men and choosing the most rightful leader in my perspective. It’s crazy how I’ve lived 27 years and not have voted a single time. I’d like to blame that on living abroad and not caring about my country’s state but in the end I blame it to myself for being lazy and not putting much effort in the betterment of my country.

Also yes, I voted for Duterte. I chose not to be vocal about it on social media with lots of backlash and media coverage surrounding his campaign. My parents are also in favor of another candidate and it became a week of debates with them during the weeks leading up to election. I don’t agree about many of the things he says and will not apologize for his lack of judgement about sensitive issues or his potty mouth, but I stand by my reason on voting for him and with my research about his platforms (or lack of it–if you want to go there) and decisions, in my eyes he is the most suitable candidate for my country’s leadership. I will end it here.

Manila Trip

I went to Manila last weekend to meet up with some friends and catch up with Rob, who just got back from London and who I haven’t seen in almost 6 years. Even though we talk every single day, it was so great to finally catch up with him and other friends who I met online and have become so close to my heart. I will always be thankful for mediums like Blogger, LiveJournal, Tumblr and Twitter for letting me meet people outside my comfort zone.

New friends

I was introduced to a group of guys last month who have quickly won over my heart. We bonded so quickly despite age difference and the best part is, they spent almost a week in our ancestral home so I got to spend a bulk of summer with them. I always agree on the saying that you should be able to hang out with different age groups to improve your outlook in life–whether young or old you always have something to learn.

CUT & COLOR

Around March I finally decided to lighten my hair and get beach highlights! I was lucky to find a really great hairdresser who knew what she was doing and was able to achieve what I really wanted for my hair. For the reason that this summer in Cebu is extra hot, I decided to chop off my long hair and go really short (in my standards). I haven’t had short hair like this since 2007 and it took about 48 hours of constant validation seeking and getting used to but I couldn’t have made a better choice. It’s one less of a problem this summer.

Turning 28

What can I say? Birthdays are inevitable. No matter how much I overthink it I can’t change the fact that my age will change, but I can always try my best to shrug it off. It’s 2 days away and I am always thankful for this life despite what a crazy rough year 27 was.. I am ready to level up!

The Sunday Currently, v17

Welcome to the very first edition of this years’ The Sunday Currently! We’re on to the 3rd week of the 3rd month of the year and time is showing no signs of slowing down. My weekends are finally starting to show a footing of routine but I’m still at a crossroads of whether I like it or not. This has been the most unexpected year ever. Anyway, on to the post!

FEELING
Having a headache. I’m not sure if this was brought on by the chocolates I had after dinner and the tea I had with it, but as I sat down to catch up with work (yes, on a Sunday night), an onset of a migraine arrived. Tempted to take a Nyquil but I still have work to do so it will have to wait once I’m done. Aside from that, it’s been quite an eventful and satisfying weekend so I’m capping it off with a good dose of fangirling.

WATCHING
Honestly, videos related to work that I really don’t want to elaborate so let’s just leave it at this.

THINKING
About too many things all at once I don’t think my mind is coherent enough to translate it all to a post. Work, how to get through this week, my future, JaDine, how to finish this challenge of a game I’m playing, travel plans. Ugh. I feel like I need to empty my brain for a bit and just be literally thoughtless. I think it’s also not helping that my period is supposed to start in less than a week so maybe it’s a combination of that.

Friday’s 10 Happy Things, v11

Welcome to the first edition of Friday’s 10 Happy Things for 2016! If you didn’t know about this project yet, it’s a blog series Helga came up with last year and it’s a great exercise to remember the positive things that happened within the week.

1. Parents’ 28th anniversary. Last weekend we celebrated my parents’ wedding anniversary by doing a little family staycation in Mövenpick Cebu. As always, a good dose of sun, sand, and sea is always something I love and look forward to and it’s impossible for me to not have a great time.

2. On the Wings of Love final week. I just realized this is the second time I’ve mentioned this in my blog series! It’s the last week before the show wraps up and although I don’t religiously watch it, I have been staying tuned every day for the past 2 weeks. I’m a fan of this loveteam so it deserves a place in this list!

3. Midweek beach break. Wednesday and Thursday were holidays in Cebu (though not for me, because we follow Singaporean holidays at work) my parents took me and my sister with them for that much needed province trip since we haven’t been “home” since last year. It was a good break from the work-from-home routine for me as I got to work at the beach for a few hours. Isn’t it amazing what internet can do?

Blog In My Head

If only there was a machine that could register the blog ideas that spew out of my mind at the most random of times, then I’d totally be a super regular blogger. I have so much makeup but have barely done a one product review post. Why is that? Laziness. LAZINESS is the form of all evil.

Writing is one thing, I love writing, heck I can write as much as I want.. but a pretty post with pretty pictures of the things I’m writing about? That’s another thing. So here’s a mental list of the things I want to blog about but I am too lazy to do so. Let this post serve as a knock on the head.

2015 Makeup Favorites
US Makeup Haul (oh there are a lot of these)
Brow products review (THERE ARE ALSO A LOT OF THESE)
New York Trip
Washington DC Trip
New Years’ Day in New York
Hong Kong November Trip
Christmas Day in New York City
Watching Matilda on Broadway
Singapore January Trip

Hello, 2016

Hello, 2016

I don’t even know where to start. What I know is, I finally got the 2015 review posts out of the way! I promised myself last year that I wouldn’t resume blogging unless I filled that out. I know everything in this blog since the year started has been long overdue considering today’s date but I would like to at least redeem myself for my 2 month absence. Here’s a little recap of how my 2016 has been so far..

For the whole of January I was only “home” for less than a week. As soon as I got back from New York, I had a few days to unpack and breathe for a bit before heading off to another Singapore work trip. That was a really packed week where I did lots of alignment with my bosses, meeting clients, and working with various teams on achieving projects, not to mention team outings and just generally catching up with colleagues I work with every day but don’t see. Ahhh, the wonders of being a digital nomad.
